Grand Courtyard of the Seimas opens to the public

Press release, 10 July 2020

From Monday, 13 July 2020, the Grand Courtyard of the Seimas will be opened to the public. Previously, it was only open to residents on the Day of Restoration of Independence, on commemoration of the events of 13 January, and on other festive events.

The first guests of the open Courtyard will be welcomed by Viktoras Pranckietis, Speaker of the Seimas, on Monday at 5 p.m. ‘I am pleased that the Seimas is taking yet another step towards opening itself to the public. The Grand Courtyard of the Seimas is one of the places where the memories of the defence of Lithuania carried out 30 years ago are still alive. Therefore, I believe that this place with its impressive artistic features will become a cosy and informative public space in Vilnius,’ said the Speaker of the Seimas.

Visitors of the Grand Courtyard will be able to see the biggest bronze bas-relief images in Lithuania, namely, works by sculptor Steponas Šarapovas entitled Dispute and The Way (the latter was completed by sculptor Dovydas Zundelovičius after the author’s death).

Daliutė Ona Matulaitė’s sculpture Gražina will also be available for close-up viewing. The visitors may also admire architectural details of the building at a closer distance.

From 13 July 2020, the Grand Courtyard of the Seimas will be open to public from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekends and holidays. The Courtyard will be open until 6 September 2020. Visitors will be able to make photos in the Courtyard, entrance is free of charge.
